Say “S” to the dress

What’s “in” for bridal? Just think about the s’. Simple, Satin, Sleeves, Slits, Straps, and Silhouettes.

The dress you feel beautfiul in never goes out of style. But if being on the cutting edge of fashion is important to you, rest assured that trends in bridal typically last three to four years. Whether its a black gown, a deep plunging neckline or a classic ivory A-line, stay true to yourself and you can’t go wrong.

If it’s inspiration you’re looking for, you can always take cues from the icons: gloves like Audrey Hepburn, Bridgerton-esq exposed corsetry or intricate woven hair vines like the Mother or Dragons are all hot now.

Tracina Fisher, owner of Formalitiles in Bellefonte, PA shares a few pieces of advice with each bride who visits her 710 Pleasantview Blvd.

  1. “Dont bring anyone to your dress appointment who you wouldn’t have in a birthing room. - Too many cooks in the kitchen is never a good thing. The goal isn’t to find a dress that pleases everyone, it’s to find the dress you feel beautfiul in.”

  2. “Trust your stylist for suggestions that might work for your body type. Most brides haven’t tried on a wedding dress before, so it’s a learning experience. Having an experience hand help can only benefit you.”

  3. “Be open to trying new things. Many brides, including our curvy brides, have a expectation for which styles will make them look good. You may be suprised how shapely and flattering bridal gowns can be. There are so many dresses that look equally as good on a size six as they do on a size eighteen.”

According to Tracina, the one look that will never go out of style is the classing A-line - “It’s simple, elegant and works for all body types. Acessorize to the trends and you’re ready to walk the aisle!

The correct style is the one that makes the you feel confident and happy. Fortunately modern grooms have almost limitless options to hit GQ cover vibes. Slim and trim are in, as well as plenty of colors to show some personality. Rich greens, burgundy, blues and earth tones have taken centerstage from the traditional black suits. These options in a single, or the re-trending double breasted, look great with a variety of pocket squares, fun socks or no socks with loafers or boat shoes. Either way, sticking to muted or matte tones both in the fit and the shoes are the way to go.

Consider trading the long tie for a bow tie as well. If you’re setting is a bit more formal, three piece suits are still a mainstay, but try matching the vest to the suit and let a colored tie make the statement.
